Resonant Roots: Sinti and Roma Art in European Cultural History

The Akademie der Künste in Berlin will present Resonant Roots, an exhibition and research project exploring the contributions of Sinti and Roma artists to European art and cultural history. The project will run from 9 September to 12 December 2027.

Developed by the Akademie der Künste in collaboration with the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC), Resonant Roots brings archival material into new contexts and places artistic works in dialogue with works by non-Roma artists and selected pieces from the Akademie der Künste collection.

The project explores how Sinti and Roma artistic production has shaped modern and contemporary European art and culture. By connecting artistic works with archival materials and cultural histories, it seeks to open new perspectives on the place of Sinti and Roma artists within broader European narratives.

Resonant Roots brings together partners working across contemporary art, cultural heritage, research, film and Roma cultural production. The project is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation (Kulturstiftung des Bundes).

The exhibition and research programme will take place at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin from 9 September to 12 December 2027. Further details about the programme will be announced by the organisers.
