Remembering the Roma Holocaust

As 2 August – European Roma Holocaust Memorial Day – approaches, the European Roma Cultural Foundation begins a series of reflections on the history and legacy of the Roma Holocaust.

Throughout the coming days, we will publish historical reflections, archival materials, and essays exploring different aspects of remembrance. Our aim is not only to commemorate those who were persecuted and murdered during the Nazi genocide of Roma and Sinti, but also to examine how memory is preserved, how recognition has evolved, and why this history continues to matter today.

The Roma Holocaust is an essential part of European history. Remembering it is a shared responsibility—one that connects historical truth with contemporary struggles for dignity, equality, and cultural recognition.
