EPICENTRE Partners: Artivist Lab, Prague

Artivist Lab, founded by artist and curator Tamara Moyzes, is EPICENTRE’s Czech partner. Working at the intersection of contemporary art, social engagement and freedom of expression, Artivist Lab creates a space for artistic practice, critical debate and collaboration.

Its programme has supported Roma artists, curators and theorists while building connections across Prague’s artistic and academic communities. By bringing artistic work into conversation with wider social and political questions, Artivist Lab contributes to an environment in which Roma perspectives can be presented, discussed and understood in their broader cultural context.

Within EPICENTRE: Roma History of Contemporaneity in Central Europe, Prague becomes a site for public conversation about artistic freedom, Roma contemporary art and Roma self-representation. The Czech contribution connects the project’s historical research with contemporary artistic practice, highlighting the importance of the spaces, debates and relationships through which art acquires meaning.

EPICENTRE approaches contemporary art history not only through artworks and exhibitions, but also through the discussions and institutional contexts that shape their reception. Artivist Lab’s involvement brings this dimension into focus, asking how artistic freedom and Roma self-representation become part of the cultural history of the region.

Because contemporaneity is not made through artworks alone, the arguments surrounding them matter, too.
